Niger-Congo
Niger-Congo is the largest
language phylum in the world, covering most of Africa.
Its internal subdivisions are not well understood, although some defined families,
such as Mande, are clearly marked. The membership of Dogon is at best
uncertain, and there are languages, such as Pre, which do not seem to clearly
fit anywhere. The data is given by usually accepted subgroups, but these may
change in the future, especially ill-founded groupings such as Kwa. Atlantic, which includes Fulfulde is also a highly
problematic branch.
